What makes Wallasey so special?
The beach is a mile long beach with flat sands, a popular area for winter coastal birdwatching. The beach is part of the North Wirral Coastal Park that is a stretch of coast backed by sand dunes and nature reserves.
There is a long marine promenade and high sea wall, a lighthouse and a 19th-century fort, Perch Rock, originally cut off at high tide but which can now be approached by a raised roadway. This is home to the Aviation and Archaeology Museum, which has many interesting exhibits, including a section on ‘Luftwaffe over Merseyside’. Along the sea front are some impressive Art Deco buildings and many attractions, including a bowling alley, amusement arcade, funfair and model boating lake. This seaside resort has been popular since the mid-19th century and now features a £60 million leisure development, Marine Point, with shops, restaurants, theatre and cinema.
What to do
You can swim in the sea but need to stay within designated markers as the undercurrents are strong.
The beach is also popular with kitesurfers, so why not come along and have a try.
There are adjacent sand dunes in the North Wirral Coastal Park with specialist plant and animal communities. watch summer birds take advantage of the areas of scrub within the park for nesting and feeding.
